Grand Cayman Cocofest: fun for all the family at Pedro St James

The tropical landscape of the magnificent Pedro St James recently played host to the annual celebration of all things coconut: Cocofest, a fun Saturday afternoon packed with games, food, music and art.
Cooling coconut water abounded at Cocofest
Families came to enjoy some scrumptious coconut-inspired food, such as sweet coconut macaroons and cooling coconut yogurt from Farm Fresh Direct and spicy veggie and coconut curry from VIVO restaurant.
Kids had a great time bouncy on a variety of bouncy castles, throwing balls at an old-fashioned coconut shy, and getting their faces painted by local artist Shilpa Tagalpallewar, who also had some of her lovely artwork for sale.
Cocofest celebrated all things coconut
At the same time as all the coconut fun was taking place, Cayman’s Visual Arts Society also held an art exhibition at their home in the grounds of Pedro St James at the Watler House. Artwork was on display created by Visual Arts Society members as well as artwork produced by school children who attend St Ignatius School.
Coconut shy fun at Cocofest
One of Cayman’s favourite tourist attractions, Pedro St James, located on the rugged coastline in Savannah, is often referred to as the Birthplace of Democracy in the Cayman Islands. Having been the location where the Islands’ first government was formed in 1831 and then where the abolition of slavery was first announced a few years later. Its location includes a magnificent Great House, originally built in the late 18th Century, an amazing theatre with a brilliant 3-D multi-sensory presentation on the history of the site, as well as lush gardens to enjoy.
