Caryn Conway

Caryn Conaway spent 20 years as a textile designer with her business, WovenArt, Inc., developing weaves and palettes for a wide variety of products and became the first company in the country to produce woven photos. Caryn has recently begun to explore her lifelong dream of painting and investigating the relationship between the mediums of paint and tapestry. Always deeply touched by human emotion, her work captures it in many ways.  Caryn lived most of her life in the mountains of North Carolina, but followed her heart to the Caribbean 4 years ago, where she now resides and operates her business. She hopes to spend many years here, continuing to grow and learn, and further develop her paintings and painted tapestries. Susan Hancock

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Susan Howard Hancock left an early career as lead dancer with Oregon’s Portland Dance Theater to attend Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. A career in graphic arts led to a job in the private jet industry and she became director of international marketing and global fuel negotiations with a major company. Several years ago, Susan and her husband purchased St. Thomas Jet Center and relocated to the Virgin Islands. Today, Susan is moving toward semi-retirement and to her creative roots through her involvement with the Underwater Art Studio. Hancock’s elegant paintings and drawings express a facility with her medium and insight into her subject, be it an exceptional face, an animal or a landscape. kim Holdsworth

Kim Holdsworth first realized that art could take you far when, in first grade, the drawings in her self-authored storybook landed her in the principal’s office. Her college degree in political history was followed by two years of art training at Chicago’s American Academy of Art. After a career as graphic designer in Chicago and then in St. Thomas where she had an advertising company, she worked as editor of “St. Thomas This Week” and, since 2004, produced the annual KIDS COUNT Data Report, documenting children and families’ well-being in the US Virgin Islands. Kim resumed painting in 2003, and has been a studio member since 2008. (340) 777-6741. kimsworth4@gmail.com

Denise Kurg

Denise Ellison Kurg who has lived in the Virgin Islands for many years, is a Polynesian, born in the land of the long white cloud. She has been a tropics traveler most of her life; flying and sailing have provided a constant backdrop of blue ocean, sky and clouds. Denise’s art is self-taught and painting, from watercolors to oils, is her passion. Her paintings, often larger than life, tackle a variety of subjects. Inspired by her native culture and sensual nature, Denise’s canvases capture her evocative Caribbean surroundings and the daily insight of the unexpected. (340) 998.4423 dskurg@gmail.com
