About St Maarten

Shared by two countries, the island of St. Maarten / St Martin is one of the prime holiday destinations for visitors from all over the world. The 37 square mile island is roughly divided between France and the new country of St. Maarten, formerly run by Holland. The official languages are French and Dutch, however English is widely spoken on both sides. The Euro and US Dollar are accepted on the French side (check the exchange rate) and the Guilder is pinned to the US Dollar, with a steady exchange rate of 1.80 Guilders to 1 US Dollar. Both are accepted on the St. Maarten side. St. Maarten is a duty-free island and a 2% tax is added to all goods on the French side – and with 37 gorgeous beaches to choose from, it will be a daily choice of beach or shop.

St. Maarten / St Martin is home to nearly 100,000 people from around 70 countries.
