9 great activities for Kids to do on St. Maarten

Vacationing with your family on St. Maarten? Here’s 9 great activities for kids to do on the island, from tree top adventures to dive safaris and butterfly fun…

12 Metre Challenge

Experience the thrill of sailing on one of the famous America’s Cup racing yachts for an America’s Cup race around Great Bay. The race takes about 2.5 hours, so make sure that everyone is well protected against the sun. Children must be at least 12 years old, unless they have sailed before, in which case they can be younger if accompanied by an adult. No sailing experience necessary.

Butterfly Farm

This is a lovely way for the family to spend a morning amongst verdant gardens and brightly colored butterflies. Enjoy the tour in either French or English and learn how to nurture your own butterflies back home. Opens at 9 am. Final tour of the day starts at 3 pm.

Dive Safaris

Take a look under the sea at life in an octopus’s garden. Children from six years old can learn how to snorkel and enjoy one of the many snorkeling spots on the island. Children ten and above can do a PADI dive course and become certified SCUBA divers.

Sea Trek

An underwater, guided helmet experience in the shallows where not even your hair gets wet. See what goes on under the sea. Not recommended for very young children.

Tiki Hut Snorkel Park

Ideal for family fun on the water, Tiki Hut consists of a series of floating platforms with fresh water showers and ample opportunity to snorkel for as long as you like. They have food onboard too.

Aquamania Adventures

Take a fun boat ride out onto the Simpson Bay Lagoon to water bomb a wreck and then on to the Carousel Ice Cream Parlor for an ice cream and a ride on the carousel. They also have ‘The Playstation’, a floating playground of slides, swings, and climbing bars anchored off from their location in the Simpson Bay Resort.

Tree Top Adventure

Fly through the treetops at Loterie Farm. Take the family on a thrilling adventure in the rainforest canopy. Different levels for kids depending on height, not age.

Fly Zone: 1.30m (54in); Ti Tarzan (for smaller kids): 1.16m (45.70in);  Xtreme Zip Line – not for the faint of heart: 1.3m (51.2in), age 18 or over. Qualified guides are in charge of the fun and safety.

Rhino Safari Excursions

A wonderful guided trip across the calm waters of the Simpson Bay Lagoon, out through the French bridge, past calm bays and on to Creole Rock in the St Martin Nature Reserve for a super snorkeling experience. Rhino Safari Excursions provides a fun family outing on inflatable boats. Children from around three upwards, accompanied by an adult, can enjoy the trip. There is a minimum age of 18 to be able to drive your own boat. No babies please.

Martial Arts

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for kids from four to 16 years old are held at 15 Wellington Road in Cole Bay.  Kids who have never tried martial arts can join in and learn with the Renzo Gracie St. Maarten kids’ team.  They are closed from the end of June to the beginning of September for summer break.
