5 minutes with…Bahamas Photographer André Musgrove

We met Bahamas based photographer and filmmaker André Musgrove to chat about underwater cinematography, dive destinations, and island life.
Where does your passion for photography and cinematography come from?
My passion for photography and cinematography comes from my love for sharing my adventure experiences with others and conveying the emotions I felt through media.

When you’re not behind the lens what are you up to?
When I’m not behind the lens, I’m still somewhere in the water either spearfishing or freediving. Or exploring on land around the different islands of the Bahamas.
What’s your favorite dive site and why?
I don’t really have a favorite dive site, as every dive site offers something unique about it and are great for different reasons. I do however love dive sites that have a healthy population of Sharks and Coral Reef combination.
What are your top three things to do in The Bahamas?
My top 3 things to do in the Bahamas are Freediving, Scuba diving and island hopping.
Have you had any scary encounters while diving?
The only scary encounter I can remember is one occasion when a bolt of lightning struck the water, I was swimming in with a friend, it was about 100ft from us.
What are the top 3 destinations you would like to visit this year?
My top 3 destinations I’d like to visit this year are Hawaii, Raja Ampat and the out islands of The Bahamas.
What are your top tips for capturing underwater images?
My top tips for capturing underwater images is to take proper care of your equipment so that it takes care of you. Use proper lighting techniques and always keep in mind composition.
What’s your favorite Instagram picture or video?
My favorite Instagram photo is entitled “Guardians of the Galax-Sea”.
