The Kimpton Seafire
The Kimpton Seafire has lots of great dining spots for everyone. Sunday brunch is always a relaxed and fun affair and the Kimpton Seafire does it in style at their wonderful Ave restaurant, overlooking Seven Mile Beach, with seating indoors and on the outdoor terrace.
Avecita is another restaurant that’s made for relaxed dining with loved ones, with communal dining taking place all week excluding Wednesday. A seasonal fun event is their Island Fest, taking place every Monday at their stunning Beach Deck location, while the Chef’s Counter happens all week, excluding Wednesday, for a more intimate dining experience that might include the older family members. But best of all (for kids at least!) is their brilliant Coccoloba restaurant, just a stone’s throw from the beach, so kids can build sandcastles to their heart’s content all day long, then wash off and be munching the best tacos, all in a matter of minutes!
Although a refined and sophisticated resort, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is by no means stuffy and welcomes families with lots of lovely dining spots dotted around this spacious resort to accommodate all sorts of palates.
Once kids have finished playing at the resort’s mini waterpark, Starfish Cay, they will no doubt be hungry for a great lunch or dinner! Andiamo is a perfect location for al fresco dining upon a spacious covered terrace that lets the cool breezes in but shields diners from the heat of the day. This is a renowned Italian restaurant that specialises in pizza and pasta and which has designed a kid’s menu full of great options, with kid-sized cheese or pepperoni pizza, meatballs and spaghetti, hot creamy tomato soup, chicken fingers or a ham and mozzarella cheese sandwich that won’t fail to please! And don’t forget the authentic Italian gelato for dessert.
For families who don’t want to stray too far from the resort’s impeccable beach, there’s the laid-back Bar Jack, which offers all-day dining for children at just CI$15 and has a very good selection of dishes for kids, including a BBQ chicken breast sandwich, chicken or shrimp tacos, the ever-popular chicken quesadilla or chicken nachos, to name but a few tasty dishes.
People come from all over Cayman to enjoy what you would expect from a restaurant named Chicken! Chicken! – fantastic chicken dishes! It’s a lovely restaurant located in the West Shore Centre off the West Bay Road that offers up spectacular chicken that’s covered in a delicious array of herbs and spices to give it a unique flavour.
The sides that they serve with each dish are plentiful and can make
a meal in themselves. Whatever you do, don’t forget to order their delicious Caribbean cornbread, which mops up all the incredible succulent juices from the main star of the show! The staff are always friendly and dish up your meal with a smile. This is a definite go-to for budget-friendly and family-friendly dining that will be a popular spot for the entire family.
Another wonderfully welcoming restaurant is the lovely Ragazzi Italian has influenced their old-fashioned, simple, pizzeria and restaurant located in Buckingham Square off the West Bay Road that has been the ideal destination for families in Cayman for years. As well as their excellent fish and meat dishes, Ragazzi is well known for their great pasta dishes, while their pizzas are fantastic thin-crust creations made in a wood-burning brick oven for authenticity like no other.
Dine at Cimboco and you will feel it’s a home from home because their staff always welcome you with a smile. Cimboco (named after the first locally built, motorised sailing ship in Cayman launched in May 1927) is located just off the West Bay Road at the Marquee Plaza. The restaurant has made a name for itself as THE place to go for breakfast, with its fantastic five-dollar weekday breakfast, but to miss out on visiting here for lunch or dinner would be a crime.
Dine on a fine selection of sandwiches and artisan pizzas for lunch and branch out to try restaurant favourites for dinner. These include the ever-popular Simple ‘N’ Light, that’s linguini pasta simply tossed with olive oil, garlic, sweet tomatoes and fresh basil finished with shaved parmesan and crumbled feta cheese, a dish that has been on the menu since the restaurant first started. If you love fish then you must try their Banana Leaf Roasted Snapper, that’s a fillet of fresh snapper seasoned with cilantro, sweet and island vegetables, tucked in a banana leaf, slow-roasted and served over creamy coconut-infused cassava along with grilled carrots, zucchini and a stuffed tomato. But ensure you have room for dessert because they are legendary and a visit to Cimboco wouldn’t be the same without a slice of pecan pie to round off the meal!
