Dorian rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane over the weekend before making landfall in The Bahamas on Sunday. The National Hurricane Center says that wind gusts reached up to 220 mph and that “life-threatening” storm surge ranged from 18 to 23 feet in some areas. Hurricane Dorian was the strongest storm ever to hit the Bahamas; it has killed at least seven people, destroyed houses and left countless homeless.
