About Turks & Caicos

The Turks and Caicos Islands are easily accessible by dozens of direct flights from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and the main port of entry is Providenciales. If you are connecting through to one of the sister islands, such as Grand Turk, South Caicos or Salt Cay, you can easily access the domestic terminal located right in the recently renovated airport.

The Turks and Caicos Islands consists of 40 islands and cays, of which eight are inhabited. The islands are located south east of Miami, Florida, just below the Bahamas chain and just to the east of Cuba.

The local population, known as Belongers, are the descendants of African slaves brought to these islands by Loyalist plantation owners after the American Revolution, and slaves brought from Bermuda, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and other neighbouring islands to work in the salt ponds.  Belongers make up about one third of the islands’ population, which is about 49,000 and other residents coming from all over the globe.  About 24,000 of the population  live on Providenciales.
